La Petite Belle was very weepy after school yesterday. I chalked it all up to not enough sleep. Getting back into this school-routine thing is hard, especially after staying up ’til the wee hours of the night all summer.
She cried over not being able to have a piece of cheese.
She cried over forgetting her reading book at school.
And she cried over not knowing her flash cards fast enough. (In her words, she’s “only in second grade.” I mean … what do I expect? Gee Whiz.)
She continued crying after she was done with her flash cards.
I hugged her for a little while as the crying continued for a little longer.
“Why are you still crying? What is your deal? What’s going on with you?” I asked
She shrugged her shoulders, and said, “I don’t know. I don’t know why I’m crying.”
And then, this … “Sometimes you just seriously have to cry.”
Uhhhh … you’re in second grade, kid. You’re seven. What in the world do you “just seriously have to cry” about?
And she cried a little longer while I held her. She proceeded to tell me about how tough her teacher is going to be this year by going through all the lists of rules and how many chances she can get before she gets a demerit, detention, and as she said, “expension and expelsion.” No more warnings, she says. So, I told her if she just follows the rules she won’t have to worry about any of that. She settled down after that.
Bless her heart, hope today is a much better day for her…
Oh how sad . . . poor little thing! She needs an ice cream!
Awwww…out little ones feel stress tooo…I think even earlier today than we did when growing up…I remember loving second grade and third…but fourth grade was horrid…well, in my young mind.
I hope she relaxes and that her serious cry did her heart good. You are a sweet mommy!
I hope she has a much better day today. Bless her heart…being 7 is tough.
7 is apparently really tough. I do feel for your husband in about 6 years from now … wow. But it will be fun, too. Off subject: tomorrow I’m posting about how to upload your own video for those who asked. If you would read it tomorrow as early as is conveniet for you and let me know if it makes sense, or if there’s a better way to say something, I would really appreciate it!
That is hilarious! Poor little thing. . imagine life in 10 years!

I just had THIS same 2nd grader at my house.. only male and in So Cal.
He was totally upset about how hard his teacher is going to be and how when he asks her a questions, she says “figure it out”.
I think this is that year of transition, poor things.
Well, she’s right about one thing…a girl just has to cry every once in awhile.
But the thing that cracked me up the most was when you said your dog has her own set of issues. LOL! I don’t know why I thought that was so funny, it might be a good indication that I need to go to bed.
I distinctly remember — at probably age 8 or 9 — crying, and my mom holding me, and saying to me “What’s wrong?” and replying “I don’t know” and her saying “Well, sometimes you just have to cry.” She was right. I’ve never forgotten that. And I always accept “I don’t know” as a good answer for crying.
Oh my, I’ve got the same problem in my house. I just can’t wait *smirk* until she has hormones raging throughout! NOT!
Our second grader has struggled too. I think it is harder this year.
