I was a child of the 70s and lived those oh so formative teenage years in the 80s. I was recently asked by our church youth dept. to hand over a graduation picture of Beau and myself, which I will post tomorrow … hold on to your hats! I’m just sayin’ … I thought I looked good back then, but I obviously hadn’t looked at these in oh … a few, maybe 10 years because now I want to say, “What were we thinking?” The hair … the blush … the dress …. I know you can’t wait to see it. But it did get me thinking about those good ole’ days and how times were a little simpler and we didn’t blog, much less own a computer. No, I’m not talking about the 50s or 60s, people. I’m talking about the 80s! Some things I like to remember and some things I’d like to forget. So, here goes my top 10 things I loved about the 80s. I hope I can pick just 10. Tomorrow, I will also share the top 10 things I hated about the 80s, if I can think of any.

1. Big Hair (see pic tomorrow)
2. Fashion items I couldn’t have lived without: acid-wash jeans (and they had to be ripped), armful of rubber bracelets, big hoop earrings. I think I wore bows in my hair part of the time too, which is totally weird to me.
Just to let you know, the following images are back in, although I do not wear them … maybe … OK, I would totally wear these earrings with the right outfit … who cares how old I am.

3. What’s a Wii compared to this?

Favorite Game: Ms. PacMan
4. Hair Bands … (Don’t judge me!), Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, Whitesnake, Warrant, but my favorite was Bon Jovi. I’ll let you in on a secret: I still like them.

5. Other bands of the 80s – I liked all types of music, not just hair bands. I couldn’t leave out some of my other favorites … Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, The Bangles, Duran Duran, Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Heart, The Cure, U2, Bryan Adams, Tears for Fears, Journey, and last, but not least … remember this dreamy guy ..

I think if Rick Springfield came town, I’d have to go and see him with all the other thirty-forty-something-year-old women.
6. TV – Well, growing up my a favorite TV show was Charlie’s Angels, but I think that was the 70s, so here are a few more I couldn’t miss:
Miami Vice
The Dukes of Hazzard – Don’t laugh! You know you wanted to be Daisy Duke.Sorry, Seavers (if you don’t know who the Seavers are, you must not have lived in the 80s)! I must choose one.
Family Ties7. Handheld games like Merlin, Simon, and who could forget the Rubik’s Cube.
8. Roller Skating (Don’t ask!) If you’ve done the hokey-pokey on skates or slow-skated with a boy, you know what I’m talking about.
9. McDLT – How genius was this!
10. 80s Movies … the classics that defined who we were … TOP 3 include:
Sixteen Candles

The Breakfast Club,

and Footloose.

And just because “Nobody puts Baby in a corner,” … I would be remiss if I didn’t mention
Dirty Dancing.

Can I tell you how difficult this post was to narrow down? But, I did it! What about you? What did I miss?
I’ve never done one of these auto-linkies before. I’d love to see some of your 80’s favorites. So, in the words of Clint Eastwood, “Go ahead, make my day!”
