But, alas, this post has nothing at all to do with Bon Qui Qui (but I do love me some Anjelah Johnson).
I’ve been reading Craig Groeschel’s devotional on Elisha … “Elisha: A Tale of Ridiculous Faith.”
It has truly made me think about how little faith I have a lot of the time. And, I think I’m doing pretty good at having faith. But, compared to Elisha, I pretty much stink. Elisha’s faith was just that … ridiculous. He never wavered. He never doubted. He was obedient from the get-go.
From the very first mention of Elisha, he exhibits great faith, with no resistance. When Elijah throws his mantle on Elisha in the field as a calling on him to follow Elijah, Elisha immediately says good-bye to his family and follows the prophet. He obeyed right away. Excellent first-time obedience skills!
He didn’t take time to pray about it or meditate on it or even tell Elijah he’d have to get back with him in a couple of days (like most of us do). He just obeyed the calling God had upon him.
Seems simple, right? But, really, if we’re honest, immediate obedience is not always easy and not always our first choice. But, it should be. Because that other kind of obedience … slow obedience … usually ends up hurting us in the long run. As I used to tell my 2nd-grade class, “Slow obedience is NO obedience.” That works for us as adults too.
Craig Groeschel says this and it’s stuck with me:
“Elisha shows us that to step toward your destiny, you have to step away from your security.”
So good.
Security can be a thing that holds us back from the destiny and very calling God has for us. Security is easy. Security is safe. Why would you need anything else, right?
But, I don’t want security to ever be a reason that I don’t think or dream big for myself and my family. I don’t want security to hold me back from the very things God wants me to do.
Security is not scary. But, a leap of faith can be.
That’s when you have to cling to everything you know about God. Then, you trust.
There’s so much good stuff in this devotional. Craig didn’t pay me to write this, but maybe he should give me some sort of shout-out. If you use You Version, get it. It’s a short one (only 13 days), but filled with so much truth and wisdom.
Craig … if you read this … first of all, that would be cool, and thanks!
This walk of faith is difficult sometimes. I like to be secure. I want security. That's what makes those steps of faith difficult for sure.
This post makes me want to go read that book. Thanks for sharing.
