We went to lunch after church on Sunday … the whole family … Beau, K Belle, La Petite Belle, and me. While we were enjoying our delicious Mexican feast, we were engaged in our normal, extremely interesting conversations about what the girls learned at church, what Spanish words we actually knew, why the girls shouldn’t watch the Mexican TV programs while we were having a family meal, whether or not K Belle could actually go the entire meal without going to the bathroom (she couldn’t), why we were drinking water instead of soft drinks, and the TOPIC OF THE DAY … how the girls want Beau and I to have another baby.
As I am growing older, for some reason, I am really, really, really wanting another baby. But, I know my age is an issue … actually Beau’s age more an issue than mine. You know, women are having babies when they are a lot older nowadays and Beau’s mom had him at the ripe ol’ age of 40.
Here’s the bad thing about all that:  Beau’s been … you know … how can I say this … fixed, neutered, “altered.” He had that wonderful surgery that we are oh so thankful for … except for when my little baby fever arises.
I would love to adopt, but honestly, we just can’t afford it, which is a shame. I mean, does the government really want to find homes for these children or make money? Even going to another country to adopt would be great, but that can be even more expensive.
The girls know I want to adopt and always talk about it. And so we did talk about it again at lunch.
K Belle talked about how she wanted us to adopt a baby from Ireland or France. I think she thinks they are automatically born with those particular accents and speak the languages fluently. I explained to her that the babies would grow up being American just like we are.
Then, La Petite Belle said that she wanted us to get an origami baby.
HUH?
Origami baby?
We all proceeded to crack up. We asked her if she knew what origami was. She said she didn’t.
K Belle looked at her and said, “It’s the art of paper-folding.”
We all cracked up a little bit more. And Beau said, “Yes, we can have an origami baby.”
So, meet the newest member of our family.
