… this is the day.
The day I start “training,” (which Beau says sounds like such a pretentious word). Whatever. I’m not sure what else to call it. It’s called training … training for my first half-marathon.
This training includes 4 days of running and 2 days of cross-training per week for 12 weeks.
Ugh.
I typically run 3 days a week, so adding a fourth is not that big of a deal unless you consider the fact that the distance is longer. Blech.
It’s the 2 days of cross-training that I think will be my biggest struggle. But, I know I need to do it to have strong enough legs to make it those 13.1 miles. So, I’m giving myself a pass on 1 or 2 of those days if I have to skip any days. I’ve got to be realistic here.
Another challenge is that it’ll be about 115 degrees from now until the race. Running on a treadmill is like torture for me. I love running and actually going somewhere. I love running outside.
But, enough complaining.
I’m gonna do this. No matter what. It’s a done deal.
I’ll try desperately not to post too much about running because people that aren’t runners hate listening to runners. I’m pretty sure that’s the case. I can barely stand it and I run.
Knowing I was to set out on this long journey today, I decided to do a quick binge yesterday and ate 2 plates of food at the Chinese buffet (which I typically loathe), including an egg roll & 2 pineapple-cream cheese wontons. Right now, those plates of food seem quite disgusting to me. But, yesterday, they were heaven. In my defense, it was my only meal so I made it count.
I’m not exactly going to diet during this time, but I will be making some better choices. (fingers crossed)
Wish me luck!
I’m praying that my left foot and knee will not give me any issues. I’ll be trying to stay totally injury-free.
I’m gonna try my best to NOT be a loser.
