Yes, I printed out my coupon for a FREE grilled chicken dinner, including 2 sides from KFC.
I even encouraged my friends to go and print them out.
It was on.
We headed out for a quick lunch last week at our local KFC.
We parked.
We got out of the truck and a man who had just walked out of the establishment said, “They have no sides. Just chicken. And, they’re not taking the coupon.”
I went on a little rampage and told my friend to get the corporate number so that we could call and complain. Of course, no number on the door. I vowed to call when I got back to work.
How dare they offer this coupon and run out of food?
There was quite a bit of scandal associated with said coupon. If you haven’t heard about it, go here. It’s a riot. As in, people actually rioted at KFCs to get their chicken.
Now, PETA is quite upset with Oprah for offering this coupon. She was their person of the year or something like that for all the shows she’s done on animal cruelty.
Apparently, KFC is quite cruel in their raising and killing of the chickens we all eat.
Now, listen, I can count on one hand the number of times in my life I have eaten at a KFC. We have Popeye’s down here. There really is no comparison. However, fried chicken and I don’t get along. So, we don’t eat it very often.
Back to KFC … I thought BIG DEAL … so they’re cruel in their killing of the chickens. Does it really matter? They’re going to die one way or another. And, seriously, they’re chickens. Does it really matter?
Then, I watched this video that made me a little sick to my stomach.
I probably will not eat at another KFC ever again, unless maybe, I’m on a long road trip, starving to death, and there are no other restaurants for another 500 miles.
I am not a vegetarian or advocating being a vegetarian, but I am a human being who is appalled at the treatment of these chickens. Really appalled.
Will I still eat chicken? Yes. But, if I know that this is going on at this particular establishment, I cannot in good conscience eat there. I would think that the slamming of chickens against the wall, the cutting off of their beaks, and the like wouldn’t please God.
I just can’t eat there.
And, if I would find out another restaurant was doing the same thing, I would have to withhold my money from them too.
Popeye’s is the best. I heard about this video, but still can’t watch it.
Wow. I guess I didn’t know it was so bad. I don’t think I’ll be going there anymore.
that was horrible! I have no words.
i know… that is just plain terrible!!
I love you, Mama Belle, but I can’t believe you didn’t know about this!
Call me cynical, but if something’s too good to be true – then it is!
When you look at the prices fast food joints charge for meat-based dishes, you know that something’s not right!
It’s just not possible to produce good, healthy, hygienic, ethically sound food on those prices!
I have to admit I didn’t watch it. I get quesy watching Greys, and that stuff is fake.
I printed out my coupons for my family, but the more I hear about the running out and the not honoring them…I’ll pass. I can make my own darn chicken. If I had a bigger yard I’d have chickens, fresh eggs, heck yeah, I’d do it.
I think it’s ironic that Pam is the spokesperson for the good treatment of animals and yet look how she’s treated her own body?? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.
I am not going to watch that video because I am already sick and I don’t need anything else making it worse.
But I have heard about how KFC treats their chickens and it is appalling. Yes, the birds might be on the way to die, but there is no excuse for cruelty.
I’m with you, I haven’t eaten at KFC in about 6 years. There really is no competition with Popeye’s.
I can’t watch video’s where cruel things happen. It turns my stomach,so I will take your word. And like you we have Popeye’s!
I have to be honest. I love KFC so I didn’t watch the video because I plan to go get my rain check for free chicken this week. KFC made a stupid stupid mistake. What did they expect when they advertised free chicken on the Oprah show. BTW, I love Popeye’s more, but we are not blessed with one but Bojangles is just as good.
2 things:
KFC was not prepared for how big the promotion was going to be…still no excuse, they ARE offering Rain Checks for people who will still eat chicken after the above mentioned video…
And hate to be a huge bubble burster, but ALL non free range chickens meet with a pretty nasty death. Clipping beaks and shoving them in small spaces, feeding them corn so they fatten up really quickly (so fast their lil legs can’t support them)…are standard US food practices.
Really most of us DON’T want to know how our food is prepared.
I’m not watching the video but I take your word for it.
I ate KFC this weekend 🙁
1. I had no idea Pamela Anderson knew so much about chickens.
2. I have never eaten at a KFC in my life. I can’t even believe the place stays open when you can go to Popeye’s.
3. I’m not an animal lover, but can’t imagine what kind of person would treat any living thing so cruelly.
4. I hope Popeye’s doesn’t do this to their chickens. Then what will we do???
Sorry…I can’t break free from KFC… sue me! 🙂
I can’t watch the video – I’m sure it is horrible and I’ll take your word for it.
We don’t eat at KFC so I didn’t even bother with the coupon.
And as for PETA. To me it stands for…
People
Easting
Tasty
Animals
I know, I’m bad!
So I saw the title of this post and laughed my rear off. At just the title.
Because ALL KFC’s are horrible. Horrible. The worst service, the rudest workers, and they NEVER have what you want to order.
I want to ask, “oh. i guess you didn’t know you were going to be open today?” every time they tell me that they don’t have corn. or mashed potatoes. OR CHICKEN.
ARGH!
Now that I know the inhumane stuff, they are dead to me too. Dead.
ok. so i just watched that video and now i want to cry. that was horrible. horrible.
This was horrible to see! How can people throw chickens against the wall and stomp on them? That just makes me sick and angry! I wish we had Popeyes here in the Northwest, but I have a feeling the same thing prob goes on with their chickens too. So very sad! :o(
Were you able to get in your workouts when you kids were babies? I’m really struggling with it!
MamaBelle,
Kudos for posting this video! We have grown so distanced from where our food is grown, that we often have no idea the conditions under which it was prepared. One book that made a big impression on me was _Animal, Vegetable, Miracle_ by Barbara Kingsolver. It prompted our family to begin changing where and from whom we obtain our food.
As for KFC, the boneless, skinless cheapo chicken breasts at the store come from chickens that aren’t treated any better. If you’re able to find a local, family-owned farm (or a store that sells their chickens), you’re more likely to be eating “happy chickens.”
Thanks for the great post!
Since I dearly love chickens (alive) I dare not watch the vid. I am almost a vegetarian, anyway.
Oh…awful! What sort of sickos can DO that?
