Have you heard of “The Blue Dog”?

It’s kind of a big deal down here. It’s art done by a man named George Rodrigue. And I actually love them. Basically, there’s a blue dog in most of his paintings. And he’s done a lot of paintings. There’s even a restaurant … delicious … called “The Blue Dog,” that serves Cajun and Creole food and is decorated with these paintings.

So, every year, our church does a Halloween alternative, called the Jamboree. Every year there’s a theme and the kids dress up according to the theme. This year the theme was Cajun. This was a difficult theme for us because we are already Cajun … no costumes needed.
There is also a costume contest at this event. La Petite Belle has won three times with costumes we have put together for her. Both the girls won two years ago. I’ve gotten to the point where I just can’t be creative anymore. I can’t keep trying to outdo myself every year … well, almost.
You see, we decided to be our own Rodrigue, “Blue Dog” painting.
First, the Blue Dog,

Add in two Southern belles, a life-size picture frame, and Rodrigue, himself,

And, you get this … First Prize Ribbon in the family category + a $100 gift certificate to WalMart.

And, did I mention the candy?

Lots and lots of candy. Check out what we already ate combined with Sonic shakes, of course (because we didn’t have enough sugar and calories).

La Petite Belle and I wore matching UL shirts to show our “Ragin’ Cajun” spirit after the girls got out of their costumes.
