Remember that visit to the wax museum? The really bad one?
Yeah, that one.
And, if you’ve been reading my blog long enough, you know that K Belle is quite sensitive to anything that might be considered scary or evil. She used to literally get sick from being so fearful, causing herself to vomit before bed.
We’ve overcome that. She’s 11 now, you know.
Well, until now.
All of sudden (because she saw something from the horror part of the museum, which we didn’t go into), she was afraid last night.
One scared child we can handle.
The problem was that she made La Petite Belle afraid, who is never afraid … who actually before bed told K Belle that the wax people couldn’t move unless they broke apart and fell to the ground.
Finally, I had to do an intervention and by the end of it, La Petite Belle was rebuking the spirit of fear and quoting Scriptures.
Five minutes later … only snoring heard from their room.
Thank you, Jesus.
But, here’s my dilemma: I have a tiny fear of heights. It’s not extreme, but enough to make my heart palpitate and my eyes squeeze shut when we’re driving through the mountains … knowing that with just one small swerve of the wheels, we plummet to our death.
Beau says that I need to take my own advice.
Easier said than done.
Wax figures coming to life vs. falling off a cliff = Non-reality vs. Possible reality.
But, I am trying.
Then, I saw this sign as we were hiking up to see Laurel Falls.
And, we are to stay on this narrow little path, winding up the mountain, with drops like you wouldn’t even imagine.
And, I’ve got to keep this little one with lots of energy still and sure-footed, without tripping myself.
Of course, just a little ways into the hike, La Petite Belle’s back was already aching. It was 1.3 miles up, then back.
Had to take a rest.
The hike was well worth it.

Ok, that sign would make me reconsider the hike. I don’t do well with heights…total panic. I’m dramatic like that. My husband always tells me to take my own advice…what does he know?

Oooh, that waterfall is purdy! 🙂 I love hiking… that’s some good air on them hikes! …And I can freak myself about heights too, especially ones next to a DROP OFF. I understand your point about what could realistically happen vs. what’s impossible, but fear is fear is fear is fear, right? It’s the same spirit that tries to devour us all. I’m glad y’all were able to work through it last night! 🙂

We took Big Sister up in a STROLLER to Laurel Falls. Because we were really smart parents like that. Holy goodness – I’m amazed we made it down!!
Oh, how I pray I will be able to teach my children about the mighty powers of Christ the way you’ve taught (are teaching) your girls!
THat sign reminded me of the falling rocks sign on the roads in Hawaii, and the chainlink fences that were suppose to check said falling rocks.
So did ya’ll walk in the MIDDLE of the path? I totally would have, I wouldn’t have even leaned either way. I don’t cheat death like that! 😉 My Lord knows I would fall.

that sign reminds me of the sign we saw when hiking in AZ…something about how to ward of mountain lions…told you to hold an object above your head to make you appear bigger to them than you really were.
all we had were water bottles…glad we didn’t need them!
whew!! that is some work. we went to see Abram fall in Cade’s Cove and did not realize how strenuous it was!!! Its was a 3-4 hour hike and moderately hard! I had on flats (seriously!) and it was 5 miles back and forth (felt like atleast 15 miles). I am kind of leary of doing any other hiking now, but definately wanted to see Laurel falls. We are going up Newfound Gap tomorrow and seeing what we can see. The whole five thousand and something feet above ground is kind of freaking me out a bit, but I still want to try!!! Hope the rest of your vacation is great!
Oh and yeah, I forgot… my husband just reminded me that we are going into NC tomorrow and checking out Mingo falls. Its a 180′ drop… the highest falls in the park (I think). Its moderate, but the brochure says its .2 miles one way…. I’m hopeing its corectly stated because it was totally wrong on the other falls we went see.
The falls are beautiful.
I’m terrified of heights. When in Colorado I have height attacks. Really bad height attacks. Really.
I was scared of my own shadow at that age….and now I get to experience it all over again with my son who is 9.

Wax figures – kinda freakin me out right now
