This was the question posed to me tonight before La Petite Belle went to bed. She began crying right before bed, saying that she was scared. Of what? I don’t know. She asked to sleep with her sister. To which, I said the inevitable, “No, not on a school night.” We headed off to her room after our prayers and she began crying. I asked her what she was afraid of. She said, “Mommy, don’t you know there are people out there that can kill us?” Whoa! Hold the phone! Where did this come from? I explained to her that she was so safe in our home and that God was protecting us. I, once again, (previous expertise from big sister’s fears) quoted Scripture that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but love, power, and a sound mind. God says that we should fear not because He is with us. Do you believe God’s Word is true? Then, we should not fear because His promises are true and He will never leave us or forsake us, ETC., ETC., ETC. Then, I think the truth really came out.

La Petite Belle: Mommy, I’m scared that I will die and then I will never see you again.
Mama Belle: Baby, do you have Jesus in your heart?
La Petite Belle: Yes. I think I do. I ask Him every time at church, but I’m not sure, because one time I had my eyes open and another time I was talking to a friend.
Mama Belle: Have you really meant it when you asked Jesus in your heart?
La Petite Belle: Yes.
Mama Belle: You only have to ask Jesus one time and He comes in. All you have to do is ask and He stays in there. So now, you don’t have to fear death or not seeing your family again because when we die we’ll all meet in heaven.
Then, we got into this conversation all about what heaven will be like. Thank you God for her innocent heart and her desire to know that she is right with you. May we all have the same deep desire to be in right relationship with You and know You more.

This is one of my favorite songs about knowing the truth of who we are in Christ.
