I am nearing the end of my fast. Next Tuesday will be the last day and on Wednesday I will be eating meat with a triple venti skinny vanilla latte.
I was a really good girl last night. We had a small birthday party for a young girl (22 years old … that’s a young girl to me) at our house last night and had about 20 people over. I made chocolate chip cookies and didn’t even lick my fingers. We had a Snicker’s cake and Butterfingers, Cokes, chips and dips, and my cryptonite … OREOS. But, I didn’t eat any of it. Beau and I had our own snacks.
You know, I can totally appreciate this Vegan lifestyle, but I’ve turned into one of those people … you know the ones, that asks a million questions before actually ordering at a restaurant. It’s quite embarrassing.
“What type of oil is this cooked in?”
“Can I get that without cheese?”
“What all is in this vegetarian moussaka?”
And the best … “Can I see the package of your whole wheat pitas?” And yes, they were actually OK to eat.
But, I will share with you the new-found products that I love, and will continue to use and eat:
Better than Splenda and better for you – all natural, from a plant
Great for cereal. I used this with 100% Shredded Wheat (disgusting until I sprinkled a packet of Stevia over it). Pretty good.
I’ve eaten quite a bit of grilled vegetables … Delicious!
I didn’t actually eat the crisps, but the almond, pistachio, pecan, walnut mixture is to die for!
These are quite pricey and Beau and I ate them in one day, but they are good.
These are also good, but if I have to choose between a boca burger and a real burger … hmmm … Sorry, boca burger. I might buy these to fix at home because they are super quick and easy.
This bread is great if you like your bread toasted. You have to store it in the freezer, but it’s pretty good in the mornings. I can’t wait to taste it with a little bit of butter and jelly. Also, the price is cheap compared to most organic breads – $2.99, which is close to what I paid for the bread I was eating before, which wasn’t as good for me. I do have to buy separate bread for the girls. Most kids probably would not eat this.
Other things:
Homemade marinara sauce
Homemade salsas and guacamole
Whole grain pastas (turned out to be yummy)
Do you know how hard it is to find juices, expecially apple, that are purely juice and water? I found one at Albertson’s. I think it was Tree Top. Very good!
My family also discovered that we love Tropicana orange juice with lots of pulp. I’ve been buying pulp-free for so long because of the extra calcium, but no more.
FRUIT – I’ve developed a new love for fruit, especially oranges and watermelon. I crave them! I will definitely eat more fruit than I did before.
The thing that I will not eat again is all-natural peanut butter, unless it’s with jelly … you know the kind that separates and has to be refrigerated. Cold peanut butter = YUCK! It’s so oily and is hard to mix. I’ll take the sugar back in my peanut butter for sure.
It’s nice to know you had enough time to write that lengthy post while you were at WORK. Your boss should know about this
I love whole grain pasta and Boca Burgers! They are my saving grace when my hubby brings in a big fat juicy angus beef burger fresh off the grill….but thanks to the Bocas I’m able to resist.
I must hand it to you – you are doing great! Wow, the will power you have!
Congratulations!
You’re going great! You have way more will power than me. But – I love homemade guac. maybe I could live of that and baked tostitos??
