I woke up this morning with excitement about our regular Christmas Eve activities … Christmas movies all day, lots of cooking and baking, opening gifts, and Santa’s visit (yes, he visits children who are adults too).
I woke up this morning thankful that our little family is together at home at Christmastime.
We have taken EVERY opportunity we have to spend time together this year than ever before … lots of Christmas lights viewing and Christmas outings (as germ-free as possible) together this year! We are more thankful for togetherness than ever before.
I woke up this morning thinking about all God has done this year.
And, then I woke up to an email about La Petite Belle’s bone marrow biopsy results. Good news, which we already knew, was that there was no sign of disease in the cells she has. Not great news was that she remains hypo cellular and even less great that she is still mixed in her cells, called “mixed chimerism”.
My heart is heavy on this Christmas Eve because I was expecting such a great report, that her biopsy would show, not only no disease, but 100% donor cells in her marrow.
So, where do we go from here? What’s the solution?
Those are great questions and the questions I’ve been posing to the doctor.
The answer is always “we’ll have to wait and see”.
She’s already had two DLIs (Donor Lymphocyte Infusions) and I’m wondering if now, we’ll be doing another one and also wondering if we have any donor lymphocytes left. Her counts remain stable, which is a good thing.
We travel back to Houston on Monday for our clinic visits and more lab work. At that time, we’re hoping to have clearer answers to our next steps.
Living in the unknown day after day can be a scary place to be.
You can be scared and trust God at the same time.
I know it seems illogical. But, it’s true.
The definition of trust is simply this:
“Relied assurance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something; one in which confidence is placed.”
Just because your emotions are doing one thing doesn’t mean you have lost trust.
I assure you this … God is trustworthy no matter what our circumstances are. You can trust His character. He has the ability to do all things. His strength is immeasurable. And, He Himself is truth. He has proven Himself to people through the ages and He continues to prove Himself to people today, including me, including my family.
On this Christmas Eve, my thoughts are on God’s precious gift to us.
Where there was only hopelessness, He provided hope. Not only was that true over 2000 years ago in a manger, but it’s still true today. Our hope is found in Him.
Although our circumstance may look hopeless, He brings hope. He is our only hope through this difficult time in our lives. He is the only hope for the world.
Please agree with us in prayer for complete healing for our girl, for donor cells to be multiplied, and no trace of La Petite Belle’s cells to remain. We appreciate your prayers more than anything!
