I think I’ve written before about how much I LOATHE the word “busy.” I really do. I think the word is overused and a word that some people can hide behind. Once you throw that word out, it vaguely answers a lot of questions and it can make you sound more important than you really are … like NO ONE ELSE in the world is busy. Duh. Everyone’s busy. It’s life.
So, I try NOT to use the word, “busy,” but sometimes there is no other word. I cringe when I hear it spilling out of my mouth. I want to take it back.
My standard phrase is more like, “It’s crazy right now,” meaning my life is full and I can’t fit another thing in at the moment, but I will make time for you as soon as things slow down.
But, do they ever slow down?
That’s the question I’ve been asking myself lately. And, I think I’ve come up the with the answer. Brace yourself.
It doesn’t.
Life NEVER slows down unless you take hold of it and make it. That’s the only way it can happen.
Making it slow down is very hard to do because a lot of life’s busyness doesn’t always stem from stuff we, ourselves, have going on, but also the stuff that our loved ones have going on … which equals LOTS OF STUFF and us going in all kinds of different directions.
Um … I kinda went off on a tangent there because I was just about to share my weekend with you. That’s all. Not some big serious post about slowing your life down. So …..
without further ado …
the weekend …
On Saturday, I woke up at the crack of dawn {loathing every moment of 6:00 AM on a typically-late-waking Saturday morning} to head over for the Cajun Cup 10K.
I was not as prepared for the 6.2 miles as I had been for the half-marathon because, honestly, after the half, I kinda got lazy, didn’t care,  and have been running only once or twice a week. That doesn’t cut it. So, this race nearly killed me, especially the last mile.
And, I’ve come to realize something about these races. I don’t like happiness and encouragement in the last mile or so. I just need silence. Don’t tell me that I can do it or how great I’m doing as I pass you, while I’m panting like a rabid dog. Just be silent. I’m not going to even look your way. Just, please, don’t talk to me. Thanks.
But, I did make it with a pace time of a 11:10 per mile, finishing at about an hour and 10 minutes. Pretty good, especially with the once or twice a week runs.

I enjoyed a ginormous carb-loaded breakfast after the race with my running girls because that’s just what we do. We reward ourselves with food like any other person with an unhealthy relationship with food. You know you do the same. Don’t get all high and mighty on me!
Then … errand-running. Ugh. Shoot me. Does anyone like running errands? I think not. But errands must always be run.
K Belle’s choir program was that evening. The kids did great! I was most in shock of K Belle’s moves in the choir-version of Lady Gaga’s, “Bad Romance.” Not sure where she was hiding those moves.
But, you haven’t lived until you’ve heard the choir version of “Eye of the Tiger.”  Some songs just shouldn’t be sung by a choir. Overall the kids were great and there were some really cool versions of songs. Of course, as a mom, I would’ve loved to be able to hear just my daughter sing all night. I’m sure all the other parents felt the same about their child.
No doubt that parents are proud of their children. I mean … yes, my daughter’s the best, and your son’s the best, yada, yada, yada.
Sunday consisted of church services, work, and our church’s marriage banquet.
Beau and I sang a little diddy, actually a Justin Bieber song, acoustic version, of course and mostly unrecognizable to the audience. It was a cool version, but I couldn’t help but feel a little like Marty and Bobbi Mohan Culp.

And, now begins a very long and {insert another word for busy here} week, with some long work nights.
See you on the flip-side!
