Thought that title would get your attention!

In light of my boob post, I came across this section of the current book I’m reading, Rob Bell’s, “Sex God.” And, no, it’s not about sex. The book explores the connection between sexuality and how God formed us and spirituality.

Anyway, I read a part of the Scripture involving Adam and Eve, where it says, they were “naked and felt no shame.” Of course, this was before the Fall, which led me to ask … Is sin to blame for women’s low self-esteem and poor body image? I say, “YES.” Is that why we question our desirability and need that plastic surgery to boost our confidence and self-esteem? Ummm … “YES.” And, I know … I’m sure Adam and Eve were perfect specimens and Eve did not have any competition for husband’s affections. I understand that. But, as soon as sin entered the world, they hid their nakedness. They were ashamed. What does that say about my desire for the “lift”? Yes, I still desire one, but I wish I didn’t.
But, being “naked” is so much more than physical in a marriage. It’s saying, “I trust you completely to see all of me and have the confidence that you will still love me anyway.”
This is what Rob Bell said that really caught my attention:
“To pursue being naked, you have to believe that this person (your hubby or wife)  is worth getting to know for the rest of your lives. Being naked is peeling back the layers, conversation after conversation, experience after experience, year after year. It’s rooted in the belief that the soul has infinite depth and you’ll never get to the bottom of it.
Our understanding of what if means to be naked reflects what we believe about the human soul. Is it infinite? Or can you get to the end of a person?
The failure to understand the infinite depth of the human soul is often why people have affairs. They stop exploring the person they married. They find somebody who appears more interesting.”
That’s it! People are complex. There is always more to know about someone. To this day, after almost 14 years, Beau and I still find out things we never knew about each other. It’s in taking the time to invest in the relationship and peel back the layers of who that person truly is. Marriage is so much fun! And I know that Beau will love me with or without the “lift.”
One of my favorite “Mawaige” clips … and “twue wuv.”
