I thought I was doing great this morning. I got up a little early to make sure the girls were all ready for school, checked over all their papers that were do back this week, and made sure their backpacks were cleaned out. I helped La Petite Belle get dressed and headed downstairs to make breakfast and pack lunches. I toasted up some English muffins and even cut up some fresh strawberries and put a little sprinkle of sugar on top. I mean, their plates looked like something out of a magazine … beautiful, if I don’t say so myself. As they ate, I made two yummy lunches of ham & cheese sandwiches, Gogurts, Doritos, and I even put in a treat of 7-Up (this is the first time I ever send a soft drink to school). So, I was feeling pretty good about myself as a mother.

La Petite Belle is star of the week this week. So, I gathered pictures of her together so that she could bring them to class to stick up on their “Star” bulletin board. I packed a ginormous bag of Cheetos as snack for her entire class. I sent an old file of stickers I had from when I taught, with thousands of stickers in it to K Belle’s teacher as a gift. I mean … I am doing good this morning. They were both totally ready to go. I gave kisses and hugs and told La Petite Belle as she got in the truck that although she is star of the week this week at school, that she would always be a star in my life. Too which, she smiled and then gave me that “puh-lease, Mommy” look.
I’m feeling great and relaxed and headed back to the kitchen to make myself a pot of coffee (and yes, I will drink it all). I go over to our “master calendar” which is a huge desk-sized calendar that I actually stick on the side of the refrigerator with magnets. I write all of our activities on it.  Look at how organized I am!

And in my pride and contentment, I see this …

Yeah … you got it! A field trip today that I was supposed to go on and chaperone that I totally forgot about. Um … hello, Mama Belle …. the calendar only works if you look at it, dummy.
But, don’t worry … don’t think I’m too bad of a mommy. I called the teacher and she said that they had plenty of chaperones and I didn’t have to come. Good thing … because I would have never been ready in time! I called Beau who was taking the girls to school and broke the news to him so that he could break the news to La Petite Belle. This is actually the first field trip I’ve missed, so I hope she’s not too heartbroken and crying and saying stuff like, “I was the only child without a parent,” which she said to me when I missed a classroom party … the little Drama Queen! I hope I haven’t scarred her for life and that we’re not dealing with this in therapy years from now. I’m still waiting to hear back from Beau on how she took the news. I’ll let you know.
